1. Who we are

Diary of a Techy (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs diaryofatechy.com and its client portal. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. You can contact us about your data at support@diaryofatechy.com.

2. The data we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address and password when you create a client account. Passwords are stored in a scrambled (hashed) form that we cannot read.
  • Service records: the services we provide to you, their start and renewal dates, and the project updates added to your client portal.
  • Messages: what you send us by email, WhatsApp or social media.
  • Domain details: if we register a domain for you, the contact details the registrar requires, such as your name, address, phone number and email address.
  • Technical data: your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, which our web server records in its logs for security and troubleshooting.

3. How and why we use it

  • To provide our services (performing our contract with you): running your account, delivering your website, hosting and domains, and sending renewal reminders and service updates.
  • To keep things secure and working (our legitimate interests): preventing fraud and abuse, fixing problems and improving our website.
  • To meet legal duties: keeping financial and tax records.
  • Marketing: we only send you marketing messages if you have agreed to receive them, and you can opt out at any time.

4. Cookies

We only use the cookies the website needs to work: a session cookie that keeps you signed in and a security cookie that protects forms against forgery. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when you visit.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with:

  • Our hosting provider, InMotion Hosting, which stores our website and database.
  • Domain registrars and registries, such as GO54 and NiRA, when we register a domain for you. Some registries publish registrant details in public WHOIS records unless privacy protection is available.
  • Communication services, such as WhatsApp (Meta) and email providers, when you message us or we email you.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, where the law requires it or to protect our legal rights.

6. International transfers

Our hosting provider’s servers are in the United States, so your data is stored outside Nigeria. We only use providers that protect personal data to a standard required by the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

7. How long we keep data

We keep your account and service records for as long as you have an account with us. If you ask us to close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except records we must keep by law, such as payment and tax records, which we keep for up to six years. Server logs are deleted automatically after a short period.

8. How we protect it

Our website uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections, passwords are hashed, and only the people who need your data to serve you can access it. No system is perfectly secure, but we will tell you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission promptly if a breach puts your data at risk.

9. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of your personal data;
  • correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
  • delete your data, or limit how we use it;
  • stop using your data for a particular purpose, including marketing;
  • send your data to you or another provider in a commonly used format.

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, email support@diaryofatechy.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

10. Children

Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in your client portal.
